Article 70-Education of a human child |
| 70.1 |
Education of a human child |
| |
The education of all children of African Union is both a fundamental right and requirement. |
| 70.2 |
Period of schooling |
| |
All children from the age of five (5) until the age of (16) are required to attend regular classes of tuition by at least one certified tutor covering the essential Master Education Syllabus subjects, subject to examination and regular testing. |
| |
No child is exempt from mandatory tuition unless that child is ill, or some other legitimate reason as presented to the Board of Education of African Union for an official exemption. A child not attending tuition and that does not have an official exemption shall result in the parents or guardian committing a civil offence. |
| |
Withholding a child from education, without having an official exemption, shall be considered a serious criminal offence liable for potential imprisonment and mandatory loss of custody of the children affected. |
| 70.3 |
Master Education Syllabus of African Union |
| |
The Master Education Syllabus of African Union is the permitted learning material, the minimum competencies, the subject areas, teaching methods and examination requirements for tuition of all persons aged five (5) to sixteen (16) in African Union. |
| |
By this code, all tutors are required by law to adhere to the standards of the Master Education Syllabus of African Union in their regular tuition of children. Tutors are not permitted to deviate, nor ignore the required content of the Master Education Syllabus. Failure to do so shall be a civil offence making the tutor and any education institution liable to be deregistered from authorization to teach and/or teach students. |
| |
Custom information is permitted to be incorporated into the teaching of the Master Education Syllabus by a tutor and/or school belonging to a particular custom or religion. However, the principle standards of the Master Education Syllabus must not be compromised. Placing custom education ahead of the Master Education Syllabus shall be a civil offence liable for that custom education school to be deregistered from teaching students. |
| 70.4 |
School attendance |
| |
All students who attend a school for their tuition are required to attend during the hours prescribed. Failure to attend school on more than three occasions, without an authorized and acceptable written excuse, in one term shall be deemed a civil offence liable for the fine of the parent/guardian. |
| |
The failure of a student to attend school within the prescribed hours on more than eight occasions in one term shall be considered a serious civil offence liable for serious penalties applied to the parent/guardian including the potential temporary loss of custodial privileges as the child is placed into a reform and boarding education facility from which they may not leave except on nominated days. |
| |
A student that escapes from a boarding education facility shall be committing a criminal offence and liable for mandatory detention in a secure education facility for a period of not less than one year. |
