  Article 66-Case management  
66.1 Case management  
  A case is an official police file opened upon the identification of a crime, or the consolidation of several crimes alleged to have been perpetrated by one single suspect.  
66.2 The report of a crime an the opening of a new case  
  The report of a crime of level 2 and above requires the opening of a new case file.  
  A case file must include the following essential information:  
  (i) A unique international code number (given a crime may involve a person from overseas or who may have to be extradicted)  
  (ii) A unique event location  
  (iii) A unique time for the event;  
  (iv) A seriousness level (based on the accumlative alleged offences  
  (v) A summary of the initial criminal codes  
  (vi) A fact sheet  
  (vii) Any crime scene fact sheet and reference index of crime scene evidence images and evidence boxes.  
66.3 Closing of a case  
  A police case file is closed when a formal indictment has been drafted against one or more persons in reference to the alleged offences investigated in the file and presented to court.  
  A that point, it becomes the courts task of furthering the prosecution of the individual(s) and no longer the police responsibility.  
66.4 Closing of case because of time limit  
  All police cases are automatically closed if the case remains unresolved with no suspect formally identified and no warrant for arrest and the offence has expired beyond its stated limitation under the Criminal Code.
