| 6.1 | The Police Code and Prison Code |
|
| The Police Code of the African Union shall be responsible for administering the code of conduct, functions and operations of law enforcement officials, whereas the Prison Code shall be responsible for the administering the code of conduct, functions and operations of all correctional facilities and systems. |

| The Prison Code depends in part upon the Police Code in the fair operation of law enforcement officials in the investigation of alleged criminal acts, the arrest of persons and the preparation of evidence/testimony for the hearing of charges and cases of accused persons and any lawful remand in custody. |
||
| Similarly, the Police Code in part depends upon the just operation of the Prison Code in administering the functions and operations of correctional facilities managing individuals lawfully remanded into custody and reducing the risk of re-offence. |
