Needs, Rights, responsibilities
and privileges of prisoners |

While an individual may be lawfully deprived of liberty, this shall not automatically mean their rights nor responsibilities as defined by the constitution of African Union shall be diminished. Instead, the emphasis of their rights, responsibilities and privileges shall be altered temporarily for the duration of their sentence and the type of facility to which they are currently assigned. |

Privileges of prisoners depend upon the type of facility to which they are currently assigned |

The privileges of prisoners shall always be determined by the type of facility to which they are currently assigned. |
|
| |
A prisoner assigned to a remand or disciplinary correctional facility will always have less priviledges than a prisoner assigned to a community or educational correctional facility. |

Presentation of needs, rights, responsibilities and privileges of prisoners at time of processing |

It shall be a condition of the processing of all prisoners when they are first placed into a correctional facility that they are given in the natural language and medium which they are accustom the needs, rights, responsibilities and privileges of prisoners . |

Furthermore, it shall be a condition of processing that the prisoner acknowledges in some way they have understood their needs, rights, responsibilities and privileges. |

Obligation to uphold the needs, rights, responsibilities and privileges of prisoners |
|
| |
It shall be the duty of all correctional officers to respect and uphold the needs, rights, responsibilities and privileges of prisoners. |
|
| |
No standing order, nor practice is permitted that contravenes these essential needs, rights, responsibilities and privileges. |

Obligation to uphold the responsibilities of being a prisoner |
|
| |
It shall be the duty of a prisoner to uphold their responsibilities to the best of their ability whilst remanded in custody as condition of receiving certain privileges. |
|
| |
A prisoner that denies their reponsibilities or is shown to disregard their responsibilities shall be liable for loss of some or all privileges for some or all of their time whilst remanded in custody. |
|
